Cordova, Alabama A Little History Lesson

Cordova, AL is a city that was shaped by coal mining and a textile mill, and is now rising from the destruction of an EF-3 and an EF-4 tornado in April of 2011. The city was dubbed Cordova by Captain Benjamin Long after previously being referred to as "Dent" or "Dent's Place." Captain Long settled in the city in the late 1850s and forever shaped the landscape of the city. He lured many industries to the city, including a textile mill that has shaped the industrial and residential face of the city to this very day.

CITY UPDATE

Cordova is a very unique community built through textile mills and coal mining on the Mulberry Fork of the Black Warrior River. We find ourselves deeply entrenched in recovering from two striking blows on April 27th, 2011 in the form of an EF-3 and an EF-4 tornado.

We have seen so much progress and transformation over the past seven months that it is difficult to even summarize, but that will be the ultimate goal of this website and more importantly, this administration
