The City of Cordova is situated in Walker County, in the central part of the United States state of Alabama. This area began as a textile mill town and was incorporated in 1897.

As of 2021, this city had a population of 1709, making it the 253rd most populated city in the state of Alabama out of its 588 cities. Following closely were Cedar Bluff with 1700 people and Frisco City with 1668 people.

The most extensive racial or ethnic groups in the City of Cordova are White at 87.2%, followed by two or more at 7.7%, and Black at 5.1%.

Education

Brief History

This area was initially called “Dent” or “Dent’s Place” and was a settlement on the Mulberry Fork of the Black Warrior River. It was named “Cordova” in 1859 by Captain Benjamin M. Long. He named it for a city in Mexico, where he was assigned during the Mexican–American War.

The Cordova Police Department was the only city within Walker County to get their jailing or correctional facility as of 2020.
